Meet Mrs Van der Merwe

Dear Parents and Whanau,

Welcome to Room 4 and your child's first year at Reremoana school. My name is Elaine van der Merwe and some children might refer to me as Mrs. V seeing that my last name is quite a mouth full. I look forward to getting to know all of you and working alongside parents and whanau to make this year the most memorable school year for all student in my class.

I have been in the teaching profession for over 7 years working in all parts of the Education sector. I have worked in Early childhood Education for 5 years where I have learned the importance of play based learning and the value it brings into a classroom. I have also embraced learning through exploration and through self discovery. Making learning more meaningful for the individual child. I have also completed a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education while working at ELCM Wattle Cove.

Prior to working at Reremoana School I worked at Clayton Park School in a job share role to build their foundation classroom. I have been involved in getting children school ready and making sure the children have the same foundation skills prior to starting in the year 1 class.

In between I have taken time off to have my beautiful children Mia and Nickson. I believe that children is God's gift  and they should be nurtured and educated to reach their full potential. As a mother, wife and teacher I respect parents and the way they "parent" their children.

I hope this year will be a great year in each others company..............just remember I wont believe everything they come and share at school if you do not believe everything they come and share at home!!!

If you have any questions or queries during the year please feel free to pop in during the morning or after school and have a chat or email me at

Kind Regards
Elaine van der Merwe
